BACKDOOR, Hell. (AP) - De'Marquise Elkins was captured trying to smuggle a cell phone inside a California prison where Charles Manson is housed, authorities said Wednesday.
De'Marquise Elkins, 63, was arrested Sunday for investigation of conspiracy, possession of an illegal communication device and attempting to bring a cell phone into a prison, said officials.
Elkins became interested in Charles Manson after reading a story about Sharon Tate and her baby. He became a fanatical follower of Manson and visited Manson in prison on a regular basis.
The Department of Corrections has Elkins on video as Manson caresses Elkin's face and says, "From now on you will be named Gray Wolf, my beloved."
He was taken to jail and was released after posting bail. He is scheduled to be in court next month to answer questions about the correlations between himself and Charles Manson.
Elkins was wearing a wrist watch cell phone that was confiscated by a prison official in an area where the device is not allowed, authorities said.
In 2009, Manson was found with a phone belonging to De' Marquise Elkins and he had been calling and texting children in California, Florida, New Jersey and British Columbia looking for a new legion of followers because most of the Manson family have passed away from old age.
