According to an article in The Guardian, as the British government was poised last November to re-classify lap-dancing clubs from "entertainment" to "sexual encounter establishments" (imposing tougher licensing standards), the industry's trade association insisted to a Parliamentary committee that the clubs are not sexual.
"The entertainment may be in the form of nude performers, but it's not sexually stimulating," said the chairman of the Lap Dancing Association.
After a surprise visit by several members of the Parliamentary committee to a local club, the committee ruled in the club owners favor.
"Those women must weigh 225 to 300 pounds each. He's right, there definitely is no sexual stimulation", stated one member of the committee.
"But I will recommend that they carry a heavy insurance policy against their patrons having hernias."
