Pico de Gallo, who covered March Madness for his publication The Sports Bet Gazette, has learned from the dean of Oregon State that his school will not be participating in the 2024 March Madness extravaganza.
Dean Sherman F. Silverrust told Mr. de Gallo that he, the team's coach, the players, and the cheerleaders did not like the March Madness announcers making fun of the team's name, which is the Beavers.
Beavers' coach Hank Smitten said that the play-by-play team of Woody Saloon and Buster Shakespeare forgot that they were announcing a college basketball game and not standing on stage at the L.A. Comedy Club.
Coach Smitten said that the two laughed out loud every single time they would say the name, which they would stress as 'THE BEAVVVVVERS.'
Meanwhile, a spokesman for the March Madness organization simply commented tongue-in-cheek that maybe Oregon State should consider running a contest to rename the team.
